About Us:
The Old
Town Civic Association was
originally founded in 1951. In 2007, Old Town Civic Association,
Inc. (OTCA) was formed to further the purpose for which the
organization was originally founded. That purpose is to preserve
the historical and residential
character
of Old Town,
Alexandria. OTCA takes major responsibility for meeting the
increasing challenge of maintaining a high quality of modern life in
our historic community. We cordially invite you to become a
member of the OTCA and to participate in our efforts to ensure
that Old Town retains its unique character. OTCA's objectives are:
| ·
|
To give citizens an
effective way to
channel problems to the proper authorities; |
|
| ·
|
To
provide an open forum to explore and resolve community issues; |
| ·
|
To
achieve harmony and mutual understanding between the commercial and
residential interests in the area; |
| ·
|
To
continue working for the overall improvement of the Old Town area; |
| ·
|
To
work cooperatively with other groups seeking the betterment of
Alexandria; |
| ·
|
To
undertake community projects in support of OTCA's objectives. |
OTCA is
governed by Officers and
Directors elected by the membership. We stay abreast of City
business and write a monthly newsletter to keep members informed of
important issues and events. OTCA represents Old Town residential
interests before City Council, the Planning Commission, the Board of
Architectural Review, and other policy-making bodies. Membership
is open to all individuals or households wishing to join without regard
to area of residence. The OTCA meets on the second
Wednesday 9 months a year at the Lyceum, 201 S. Washington St. A
half hour of socializing with neighbors starts at 7:00 p.m. followed by
the evening program at 7:30 p.m. Programs cover a wide
variety of timely and informative topics including, for example,
presentations by City officials and other professionals on development
and land use issues in Old Town, waterfront planning, transportation
planning, City policy
and budget issues, historic preservation, and garden design and
maintenance.
Your
membership will help ensure that
your interests in the community are represented and that our historic
neighborhood is nurtured and protected.
